Apple Updates iWork on iOS/OS X with Major New Features

Few days ago, Apple has announced the update of the iWork for iOS 9 and OS X El Captian to support Split View, Picture-in-picture, 3D Touch and more. Let’s see what’s new in iWork for iOS 9 and iWork for El Captian separately.

Part 1: New Features on iWork for iOS Device

a). Pages for iOS Device:
1. Arabic and Hebrew templates.
2. Add reference lines to charts.
3. Preview shared documents on iOS and Android browsers.
4. Improved Word compatibility for charts, text overflows, and nonrectangular masks.
5. Open Pages ’08 and Pages ’06 documents.
6. Easily access recently used fonts in the Fonts menu.
7. Multitask while editing using new Slide Over, Split View, and Picture in Picture on iOS Device.
8. Easily select text using new Multi-Touch gestures on iOS Device.
9. Use keyboard shortcuts when connected to a wireless keyboard.
10. Use Handoff to seamlessly switch between iOS Device and Mac.

b). Numbers for iOS Device:
1. Use Slide Over, Split View and Picture-in-picture to do multi-tasking work.
2. Use the all-new shortcut to access to the format tool.
3. Select text by using Multi-Touch on iOS Device.
4. Use keyboard shortcut when connected to wireless keyboard.
5. All-new 3D Touch supported.
6. Open Pages’08 and documents.
7. Preview shared spreadsheets on iOS and Android browsers.
8. Access fonts that used recently.

c). Keynote for iOS Device:

a). Pages for Mac:
1. Filter comments and tracked changes by author.
2. AppleScript support for Mail Merge.
3. Multitask while editing using new Split View.
4. Open Pages ’08 and Pages ’06 documents.
5. Shared Pages documents can now be previewed on iOS and Android browsers.
6. Force click images and get haptic feedback as you edit using Force Touch trackpad.
7. Enhanced OpenType font features: small caps, contextual fractions, alternate glyphs.
8. View Collections, Moments, Favorites, and Shared Albums from Photos in the Media Browser.
9. Improved Word compatibility for charts, text overflows, and nonrectangular masks.

b). Numbers for Mac:
1. Multitask while editing using new Split View.
2. Open Numbers ’08 spreadsheets.
3. Shared Numbers spreadsheets can now be previewed on iOS and Android browsers.
4. Force click images and get haptic feedback as you edit using Force Touch trackpad.
5. Easily access recently used fonts in the Fonts menu.
6. Enhanced OpenType font features like small caps, contextual fractions, alternate glyphs.
7. View Collections, Moments, Favorites, and Shared Albums from Photos in the Media Browser.

c). Keynote for Mac:
1. Multitask while editing using new Split View in El Capitan.
2. Open Keynote ’08 and Keynote ’06 presentations.
3. Preview shared presentations on iOS and Android browsers.
4. Force click images and get haptic feedback as you edit using Force Touch trackpad.
5. New Apple-designed themes: Modern Type, Exhibition, Drafting.
6. Easily access recently used fonts in the Fonts menu.
7. Enhanced OpenType font features like small caps, contextual fractions, alternate glyphs.
8. View Collections, Moments, Favorites, and Shared Albums from Photos in the Media Browser.
9. Create table, chart, and shape styles from an image.
10. Improved PowerPoint for charts, text overflows, nonrectangular masks, animation mapping.

As we can see from the new features above, we can know that Apple gave a big update on both iWork for iOS and iWork for Mac. If you are careful enough, you will find that the “Beta” characters are removed on iWork for iCloud.

The features mentioned above are only part of the iWork update, as you can see, the new iWork update focuses on the multitasking such as Split View, Picture-in-pictures and Slide Over to make it easier for you to use Pages, Numbers and Keynote on iOS 9 device as well as El Captian for Mac. Besides, Apple also added new features on iCloud: For example, iCloud users can preview shared presentations on iOS Safari and even Android device.
