Unlike other images editing software, PhotoViva is not only a filter application focuses on pictures editing, it features unique freeform painting which allows you to create amazing oil paintings, wax painting and watercolor. Now, let your imagination fly and let’s enjoy paintings.
The very beginning you load a picture with PhotoViva, you will see the main menu consists of four main icons, very clear and concise. They are respectively photo menu, edit tools, paint mode, and settings from left to right. That’s a very simple and clear screen, right? You can double tap on the picture or drag with two-fingers to zoon in and out. Now let’s see how to make these four menus works at their full capacity.
1. Thoughtful Settings Menu
At the very beginning you enter the main screen of this program, you may click “Settings” icon to get details about this program and adjust your preferences. Tap on “Settings & Help” and you’re entitled to set the default resolution ratio, which is dependent on you mobile device, and background images to start. What’s more, you can choose what languages to apply (only English and Chinese are available at present) and get online help.
2. Multiple-choice Photo Menu
As you can see, photo menu appears as a camera icon. Click it and you will see a submenu including four options which are “Camera“, “Photos“, “Inspiration” and “Save“. You can load a photo from camera or photo album on your device. Besides, you can also get inspired by some original photos and effect pictures stored up on “Inspiration“. After you finish editing or painting you can click “Save” icon to keep the current canvas.
3. Powerful Photos Editing Tools
Click on the second icon which looks like a sun to enter photos editing interface where iPhone users exclusively are entitled to utilize landscape mode. However, the screen is so small that the editing tools are split into 2 menus. This is also the shortages left to be improved in future generations.
There are 15 tools available for your action. You can crop, enlighten, liquify, saturate and sharpen your photos. Or you can also conduct Shadows, Midtones, Bightness, Cool/Warm, RGB Adjustment, Hue Adjustment, Add Noise Function, Ghost Edges, Blend Undo, watermark functions as you preferences.
4. Freeform Painting Menu
Maybe you are not surprised by its editing function as other counterparts can also do that. However, you’re sure to think highly of its freeform painting creation which is also the essence of this app.
Press the third icon (brush icon) and you can start the journey of freeform painting creation. There are four icons on the bottom representing “Fill“, “Brush“, “Color Source” and “Image Source“.
Click the fill icon to show all fill options where you can see three basic colors provided. That’s to say, you can clear the canvas into White, Black and Cream. You can choose “Auto Paint” to use the current brush to replace brush strokes on the canvas. Or you can go to “Color Source” to choose the color and return to “Color” under “Fill” icon to complete filling with photos. The effect of fill can be previewed with a thumbnail where you can click to conduct detail setting. For example, you can edit the edges and size of fill area, adjust height and width. If you’re not satisfied with the effect, just double-click the icon below the photo to return to the initial interface.
There are more than 20 types of brushes and four actions available for you. And you can touch any of them to make it the current brush and adjust the direction and size of the brush by long-pressing and dragging it.
“Paint” allows you fill the canvas with your chosen paint color.
“Copy” acts like an eraser which will erase the filled color and shows the image with original canvas.
“Set” enables you fill the image with the direction you paint.
“Follow” can be used to make brush strokes paint in just one direction or follow the direction as you paint.
When using the brush, you should pay attention to “Color Source” and “Image Color“. If you’ve clicked on “Color Source” before then the color will go into effect to current brush. And so is “Image Color”
As you can tell from its name, Color Source refers to a place where you can choose what color to use. Whatever color you need, you will always be accomplished by the combination of color wheel and triangle.
“Pick Color“: You can pick color directly in “Color Source“.
“Canvas Color“: The selected color you pick in “Fill” icon.
“Paint Color“: Perfect shot preview of the final selected color.
“Add Noise“: You can slide the bar to add noise to the color to vary the paint strokes.
Images Source is a very useful icon where you can compared the edited photos with the original one. If you touch down on the image icon, the current Image Source is displayed in the painting area where you can adjust the Brightness, Degree of Saturation and Cool/Warm effect with two methods: “Use Canvas” and “Use Photo“. Another thoughtful gift is that you’re entitled to do 10 levels of “Undo” and “Redo” which prevent you from starting from square one in case of any mistakes.
There is no doubt that the most special function of PhotoViva lies on its freeform painting by providing users a chance create their own art of work. It may not be easy to get used to it, but I think what it counts is that you’re able to enjoy the fun painting and the sense of accomplishment. If you’re a painting lover or just want to experience the fun of painting, don’t hesitate to download and have a try! There are iOS and Android version available, both for $1.99.
